Norton's Disk Doctor

By fixitcoach ·
This is very strange: I can scandisk with Windows 98 fine. No problem. When I use Nortons's Disk Doctor it says "Boot record and FAT files are invalid" That is crazy. The computer works fine in every respect. But Norton's is sick. Any clues?

Ouch. I seen a hard rejecting above, but here's my opinion. As far as a problem goes: If your version (not supplied to us for viewing) of Norton didn't support FAT32 and you are running FAT32... that's probably why you have those problems. Also Norton has bug, you might need to check for and apply patches. HOWEVER, if I were you, I'd do what the users above this said, except for one thing, do NOT reinstall it. Windows can handle its own, it can check the disk, it can defrag. Granted it's not aspretty as Nortons and there no cool speedometer to read and gauges to marvel at, but it works. Why install a program (or group of...) to do something the OS already does? Norton is not superior, it slows down you system while it monitors, crashguardcaused more crashes then it resolved or "detected", just not worth it. Speed Disk was and is the best thing about Norton and anymore with Win98 you just don't need it. Sorry Peter, love the A-Virus though! Cheers

Now here is the strange thing also. I have installed this on another machine, formatted in the same way (32) and it works fine. Just won't operate on this one. But you did help me and I will close the question. Thanks. The only thing I really like about Norton's is the system check. Crash Guard is not installed. It does what you said and nothing from Norton's is running in the background. I use it when I want to. Again, thank you for your help. Ross

I have another question but don't know where to insert it on this server. I have a KDS Visual Sensations Monitor and have no information on it regarding a driver. Any help would be appreciated.
