NOT ABLE TO CONECT TO DOMAIN

by nhmorrison In reply to NOT ABLE TO CONECT TO DOM ...

The short answer would be to set up the server as a PDC and have each of the workstations join the domain.

If you have configured the workstations already then you can have them join a domain by right-clicking on Network Neighbourhood, selectingproperties, click on the change button and fill in the blanks...

If you haven't configured the workstations yet then you can have them join the domain at install.

NOT ABLE TO CONECT TO DOMAIN

When you load NT server onto a machine you will be given the option to use it as a Primary Domain When you load NT Server onto a machine you will come to a point where you are asked what kind of server would you like. The choices are Primary Domain Controller (PDC) Backup Domain Controller (BDC) and Stand-alone. Make sure you choose PDC and then give your domain a name. Follow the bouncing ball for the rest.

When configuring the Workstations, you can specify the domain to connect to on install (make sure the pc is plugged into the network before hand). Or if they are up, go to Control Panel and Network as the local computer administrator (i.e. When you log onto the PC, choose administrator for the Username put in the password and choosethe computer name from the drop down box at the bottom). Click on change and enter your domain name. Then click on the check box to register the computer on the domain and now enter the DOMAIN administrator?s user name and password and hit OK.

There you go, welcome to the NT Domain world
