not able to create pagefile

my Win2k Pro fails to boot successfully. it hangs failing to create pagefile .

How do i resolve this without reinstalling the OS ?

I'm not entirely sure on this one. Do you have more than one partition or more than one hard drive? If yes, is one set as your boot partition and the other as your system partition?

You may be able to successfully boot your system in repair mode using the Win2k OS CD. Another option is to create a boot disk, and see if you can get to the recovery console.

Usually pagesys problems are due to insufficient space available for use on the HDD that the pagesys is on.

NB Available space and free space are two very different things. Free space is what does not have something stored on it. Available space is the free space LESS the space set aside for certain system requirements like Recycling Bin (default is 10% of HDD) and Restore (default is about 12% of HDD).

See if you can boot into Safe mode and then reduce the size of the Recycling Bin and Restore, or change the pagesys settings to have it loaded on another drive.
