Not connecting to Internet

By bachi9 ·
Hi,
I got Charter cable internet services and it went well for 2 weeks and suddenly it stopped working. I have Linksys wireless router connected to the cable modem and it was working fine.

Now I am not able to connect to internet either through wireless or wired. I tried with Charter guys and they gave up. They tried all options like switch off modem, reboot the system, deleted the network driver and re-install apart from renewing the IP etc but still the laptop is picking DHCP IP address (192.168.100.1). The charter guys say it may be some software problem.

I am not a systems guy, so don't know what more details to write. If any more details required to resolve the problem, please drop me a mail.

thanks,
Bhaskar

What happens if.....

.... you connect the laptop directly to the cable modem and bypass the wireless router?

If that doesn't work, you need to call Charter back.

Factory reset

Have you done a factory reset of the linky router?

Also, the IP that your computer is picking up is a strange one; are there any other routers on the network? Make sure there aren't any routers on the network that may be giving out conflicting IP addy's.

Lastly, have you tried any other computers/laptops? I would run the WINSOCK2 fix from this article on your computer.

I like the manual method in the section of the article near the bottom titled "Windows XP without Service Pack 2 instructions".

Lastly, if you can't get a connection by picking up DHCP, then enter IP info manually into your TCP/IP properties.
