not detect hd

By syaza61 ·
i want to add new hd in my computer.i've already install win98 into that hd (using another pc).when i try it into my pc,it won't detect the hd.(when i enter to cmos,it hang(got to restart again)).
it's say pri master hd errors, press f1 to resume.then i follow the instruction, and it's ask me to insert the boot disk.
then the screen shows "windows 98 has detect that drive c does not contain a valid FAT or FAT32. There are several posible causes.".....
But when i try it with another pc,there's no problem. My motherbrd is celeron 300mhz.
Can anybody tell me why and how to solve my problem.

Have you set the Standard CMOS settings to Auto and then try to do a hard drive detection? or is this the first hard drive to ever touch this mother board?

Try checking your jumper settings find out the make and model number of the drive as well as the capacity if the jumpersettings are not written on the drive its self you can find them through the Manufacturers Website. If then it wont read the HDD itcould also be that because the drive has had the O/S loaded onto it through another system .It may not recognise the HDD because it was not loaded through your bios . You may need to load windows through your bios.

Good Luck :-)

Before we get to your HD detection problem there is another issue. Windows installations are hardware dependent. If you installed Win98 on another PC and then but the HD in yur machine you may have some problems.

Now for the HD. Is it possibleyour motherboard uses cable select to determine which drive to boot from? If it does try switching the position on the cable. If not; Make sure the jumpers on the HD are set for master. Make sure you are connected to IDE1 not IDE2.

Did you let the BIOS auto detect your new hard disk?
Let's assume that you say "YES", there are some posibilities around here.
The first one is that the other pc where your formated and installed windows 98 didn't detect the hard disk settings as this other machine did.
Suggestions, go to the other pc, check the settings it takes when you install this new hard disk and manually set it up into this other pc.
Let it boot and see if it detects the hard disk.
Please e-mail me backup if it doesn't work, and give me some more details, like Mainboard brand name, hard disk specifications, etc.
Good luck,
@lberto
