Notebook hard drive crash – how to recover files

by richincome . Updated 17 years, 7 months ago

My notebook crashed last night. The people at Hp Told me that I lost everything and cannot recover my information. Is this really true? Here are the specifics.

My son was playing a computer game, and the computer froze. He pressed the button to turn it off. When the computer came back on, the screen was black. Then, it tried fix the problem with startup repair. When startup repair ran, it fixed some problems, then said it could not fix anything else. The following message is what came up:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairV2

Prob Sig 09: WrpRepair
Prob Sig 10: 2
OS version- 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID- 1033

When I clicked on another area, the following problem came up:

Boot critical file C:\Windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe is corrupt
Repair action- File Repair
Result- Faile. Error code- 0x2
(I looked up ntkrnlpa.exe which looks like a video file)

The guy at HP told me that they were sending me a new hard drive and I lost my files.

Is there ANY way to recover my information? I have only had this computer for 30 days. I have a lot of pictures, schoolwork, excel files, work files, etc on this harddrive.

The computer is a Compaq Presario F572US Notebook running on Vista. The HP guy also had me run a hard drive self test and it failed. (Test status #2-07 Fail ) That’s when he told me that I lost everything.

I read in another topic that if the hard drive was in tact, then you could use a hard drive enclosure. Would this work at all for me if my hard drive is no good? Any help would be greatly appreciated? Hopefully I was specific enough. Thanks, stephani
