You should not need to re-install

Your notepad.exe file should be in c:\windows

Just make a new shortcut to it and delete the one that does not work.

If you do not see notepad.exe in c:\windows use
Search for Files and Folders to find it.

Sounds like your icon got hosed somehow.....go to Start>>>run>>>and type in notepad and hit enter. IF notepad starts up, it's fine and you only need to make an icon for it.

Perform a search for notepad.exe and once the file has been found, just right click on it and "send to desktop". You can then move it to your start bar, or back into your accessories group where it was originally.

If for whatever reason it's not working properly, you will need to extract it from your Windows CD's. Let us know if you need help with that! :)

Chances are that you won't even need to reinstall Notepad. It's
probable that the shortcut got messed up in some standard
Windows way. :)

Try running C:\Windows\notepad.exe - it should start. If it does,
you can go to C:\Windows and make a new shortcut from there.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to reinstall it. You can do that
from the Windows Components (?) part of the Add/Remove
Programs setting.
