nothing running, 100% cpu usage

By jemd ·
I keep running into the situation that my system seems bogged down so I open Task Manager. I see no processes running (except TM) but I have 100% cpu usage. What is doing this and how can I turn it off? I have a suspicion about indexing running in the background?

In TM on the processes tab when you sort by CPU usage you see nothing but 0's?

Hardware issue?

It could be a hardware issue. Is the HD peforming a lot of read/writes? Try reseating your memory, or replace it if you have spares. Run a chkdsk on the HD and see if it comes up with anything.

It might be a corrupt driver. Have you tried booting it in Safe Mode?
