Novell+DBF+Internet query

By pierosit ·
I have the following scenario:

a novell server with .dbf database. I have to acces the database via the Internet for a simple query.

I have never worked with novell before and i don't know exactly what I need. What can I use for getting into the dbf??? PHP??? Perl??? Or what??? What do I need to install on the server???

Thanks for your help!!! My only experience is MS/ISS and ASP.

Novell+DBF+Internet query

by erikdr In reply to Novell+DBF+Internet query

As often in ICT, there are many ways to approach the problem.
Main choice will be WHICH MACHINE will be the INTERNET host.
Yes, it could be the NetWare box. It can run Novell Web Server, Apache or a few others. And Novell eXtend, the J2EE platform which includes JDBC drivers which can also access a DBF. But then you're talking about serious Java programming and the issue of making a good and secured web app server out of the NW box is not a trivial one.
However, NetWare in your case mainly acts as a file server. The webserver could as well be a different machine, just itself being logged on to NetWare all of the time and accessing the DBF over its internal LAN.
In that case, you could write the web app with MS-IIS, ASP and whatever you like...

Hope this helps a bit,
