NT 4 and SMP issues

By pgm554 ·
I have a Dell 2400 SINGLE processor file server ,NT 4 SP6,that I am cloning using Live State Recovery.
The issue is,when I restore and boot the cloned machine on another server,it says wrong HAL ,need a multiprocessor system.

The exact error is:

HAL:MPS MP
Structure not found
HAL:no MPS table found

This HAL.DLL requires an MPS version 1.1 system
Replace HALL.DLL with the correct HAL for this system

I'm guessing that the second machine has a newer CPU with multiple cores and NT is mistaking it for multiple CPUs.

This page explains how to setup the opposite (single CPU on an MPS system) so you'd just use the MPS HAL instead. Do this on the working system, clone, restore on other system, and select the new option from the boot menu.

The problem is ,that even with only one processor, the MOBO is still MPS,so the NT HAL is MPS.

Also Vmware can not inport an NT 4 MPS HAL into it Vmware product.
