NT 4 and voice modem problems

By rcoleman ·
I am trying to set up my home computer to take advantage of the US Robotics 56k voice modem installed on my computer that is runnig NT4. I've downloaded several different programs to experiment with, but the first on I tried said there was a problem, one of which may be that "most voice modems don't work with NT4." What I want to be able to do is set up voice mail on my computer, and use it to answer an 800 line for an in-house business I'm doing on the side. If at all possible, I would liketo have the modem use line one to connect to the internet, and line two would switch to the voice mail for incoming 800# calls.

1. Will a voice modem work with NT4

2. This was a $120 modem that seems like it should work, but is there another modem or card you would recomment?

3. Do you have any particular software or programs you could recommend for a small business application? (I don't want to put out hundreds of dollars for something I'm experimenting with!)

As with any hardware check first if it's on the MS HCL:
http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/

usrobotics usually is, I had the voicemodem of USR working on NT.
You may have to install the limited pnp support for them (think it's called pnpisa.inf, it'sin a subfolder of the i386).

regards,

Leopold.

Check with bitware (it's a simple home use program)
I had once some links on www.windows2000mag.com regarding voice and fax servers but I can not find them anymore.

Success

Thanks, but I finally installed some different software that solved the problem and recognized the modem. Not exactly the software I had wanted at first, but at least it works! (Advanced Call Center)

1. Yes it can.
2. US Robotics is certainly good enough.
3. For your case like #1, I would recommend BITWARE. It is quite simple, allow for pre-recorded messages, could be programmed for fax-retrieval and could switch automatically to voice or faxdepending on kind of incoming call.

Hope it helps.
