NT 4 - Creating Users Profiles

By TomSal ·
Hi. We have NT 4 servers at our company, serving Win98 clients. About 2 weeks ago the strangest thing started happening to EVERYONE who logs on to our takes loooong to log on and it pops up a window saying "Creating User Profile" as thetitle" and the body of the message reads , "Checking system policies"...

We don't even use system policies and on the client side its not even check off to use policies. Up until 2 weeks ago it just logged you right in and you never saw the message.

I went into the PDC and nothing looks out of order, there are no paths listed in my users' accounts for "Home directory" there are no script files running.

Why is it doing this? It takes a LITERAL 30-40 seconds to log onto the network from ANY computer in the company.

No physical or network design changes have been done either.

Your thoughts, input, greatly appreciated.

the size of the profiles??

by adza In reply to NT 4 - Creating Users Pro ...

I'm no NT 4 expert but i have had problems with 98 and the size of some of the profiles it creates, expecially with the internet cache. It can sometimes be copying the internet cache across with the profiles, this can cause the profiles to become quite big. Hope this helps!!
