NT 4 Install problem: "LI" ????

By lump_16 ·
Hi,
I've been trying to install NT 4 workstation on a computer to no avail.

I started with a clean slate and jsut fdisked the drive.

When I ran the NT setup and reebooted it would go thru POST then jsut come up with 2 letters: LI

Iv'e fdsiked and formated the drive numerous times, in the install I've chossen both NTFS and FAT partitions still to no avail.

All it will do is come up with LI

Any help?

Thanks,
Brian Wright

NT 4 Install problem: "LI" ????

U probably have had LINUX installed on the hard disk before. Use DM utility to format (or ZERO filling if u have SEAGATE HDD). Else use DELPART utility to format the disk. Then use fdisk if u want. This should solve the Problem and help u installNT.

Would this be the same as a low-level factory format?

Thanks,

Do the following things and check if it works.
1)when u run fdisk use the normal mode.
2)make a primary dos partition of say 1000 mb
3)keep the remaining disk space. Do not create any logical drives.
4)start installation of NT and when asked which partition to use select free space

boot with a win9X boot disk with fdisk on the floppy. Type the following:

fdisk /mbr

LILO was installed on the hard drive, and installed itself in the Master boot Record. Normal FDISK and format operations do not modify the MBR, but the ondocumented switch /MBR will re-write the MBR to the standard MS configuration.

Good Luck,

That was it, I assumed it had somethign to do with the MBR but wasn't sure after repeated fdisk's and formats and so forth. I had forgotten about the /MBR command at first but rememberd about it before I saw this. I'll give you credit anyways. Thanks
