Hi all

I have a batch file *.bat that I would like to setup as a service, so it would start automatically as the system boots up.

it there a way this can be done on NT 4 server?

Yes! There is a tool called srvany.exe in the NT resource kit. The configuration involves a bit of registry editing so remember to backup your registry! All the instructions you need are in the resource kit help file.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
A friendlier reskit tool that is just for installing services, and involves no registry hacking, is instsrv.exe - I've used it myself and it works great....

A tool called srvany.exe in the NT resource kit can make almost every application (standart .exe , .com, etc) to run as a service.

Remember that services are easy to launch but no so easy to stop. Your application should have a method to stop it,rather than the kill application (the turn off method...) which may corrupt files and databases.

All of those programs are okay but can't you setup a "CALL yourfile.bat" in the Autoexec.bat file. This way it will start upon startup.
