NT 4 Workstation Explorer Pane Missing

By huggy_d1 ·
Both "My Computer" and NT Explorer when opened/explored only show a single pane. The left pane showing drive/directory entries shows up and consumes all available window space, and there isn't a right pane containing the subtree contents of the current left pane selection.

All attempts of using Mickey$oft's KnowledgeBase, etc. have yielded nothing. A local MCSE has been unable to figure it out (implying it isn't something quite obviously wrong and quickly resolved).

What Registry Hack is required to get the the right pane working?

NT 4 Workstation Explorer Pane Missing

Try this:

1. In Explorer, click on View, Options, then the File Type tab.

2. Scroll down to Folder.

3. Click the Edit button, then select the action Explore. Click the Set Default button, then click Close twice.

I know this works for My Computer, it may fix Explorer too.

Another way to work on Explorer is to make sure the shortcut on your Start menu has /n /e switches after explorer.exe.

This answer while good info did not bring back the right hand pane.
