NT 4 Workstation Installation

By sreejith ·
Hi again,

I am expecting 4 identical COMPAQ workstations pretty soon. What's the most ideal / coolest way to setup Win NT Workstation 4 on all four machines in one go ?

Thanks.

Look into the products DriveImage or Ghost. They both allow you to create a single installation and mirror it to new machines.

Ghost will work great, but you'll have to change the SID's on each workstation.

Everyone knows that when you get a new system the OS is about 3/4 already installed. You just turn them on and they will automatically continue the installation, you just type in the correct info when prompt. Whether or not you use imagedisk or Ghost you still have to setup one to create the image and by the time you do all of this I could have all 4 plugged in and running at the same time.

Have a nice day.

Sreejith,

My entire shop used to be all Compaqs. Are you getting Deskpro's or Professional Workstations? Either way when you purchased them they will come preloaded with the Compaq image of Win95/98 or NT depending on what you purchased. If itcomes with NT Workstation its a snap. The machine pretty much installs itself through the use of a script supplied by the vendor and installs all the basic Compaq software and drivers.

After you have one completed, you can use Ghost or Drive Image or NT's built in SYSDIFF, etc.. to make an image of your system after you've installed your Standard Desktop.

The Compaq's alos come with a recovery CD to reimage to the standard Compaq desktop in case something happens.

Don't forget to rename the computer name and workgroup/domain name once the machine is ready!

g'luck!

We use PowerQuest Drive Image here and it works great for this. You'll have to create a full image on one of the PCs, with any applications that your users are going to need, and then create the image file that can be rolled out to the other 3 machines. You can actually create a bootable image CD that contains the PowerQuest Drive Image binaries and the image file so that you can image a PC just by booting off of the CD. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
