Im currently upgrading my 4.0 servers to 2000. Im trying to determine the best way to do this without directing upgrading the 4.0 installation to 2000….Starting with the BDC’s and finshing last on the PDC…

I have pieces and bits of information that can help you. Unfortunately, I can get your email. If you want email me, so that I can reply to you.
I hope you know enough about Active Directory, you’ll need that information if you going to upgrade thewhole network.

For now, What you can look into is, if you have a clean machine that you want to install W2K from scratch, after the installation you can then go to Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Configure your server and Click on Active Directory, That’s is a lot information and step-by-step on how to make a Win2K server a Domain controller and eventually a how to build your forest.

      Good luck!

Microsoft actually recommends just the opposite. PDC first and then BDCS and then member servers.

Good call. After digging through piles of information I finally came to the same conclusion. I just completed the installation of the Active Directory and everything seems to be functioning as planned. All I have to do now is look further into DNS config and plan the remaining six servers for upgrade…Thanks for your help…
