NT 4.0 on a AMD processor

By jjohnson ·
I'm trying to install NT 4.0 on a 500 MHZ Processor on a Epox psa-b motherboard.
Everytime I try to load Sp 6a, it gives me a "File corrupt" error when its extracting the Service pack. Some time when i reboot the server I'll receive a blue screen error. I need to load the service packs but it rejects all of them. (4,5,6,6A).
I need some input.

NT 4.0 on a AMD processor

Check the HAL list from Microsoft. make sure all the hardware you have in the system is supported. If there is hardware that is not in the list, then you will get errors running service packs.

Also try installing NT on a different system to seeif the there is a problem with the media that you have NT on. It could be that the method you are using to download the service packs is corrupting them. Try ordering the free CD that Microsoft gives with the service pack on that.

NT 4.0 on a AMD processor

I have an AMD processor at home and I had problems running 98 on it until I slowed it down. I actually have an amd K6-2 450 processor but I changed the mother board settings to make it a 400mhz. The Amds run too fast some times and actually dont work properly with OSes. Try to set the motherboard to say its a 400 or a 450. The difference between 400/450 and 500 is actually minimal when is comes to processing power.

The last answer seems to be right on the money. I have built a lot of machines with this chip and have had to underclock on a few of them. Try going down by 50 at a time until you get it right.
