NT 4.0 Scheduled tasks do not start

By jonhunt2 ·
I have an NT 4.0 server with SP6. The tape backup drive failed and I installed a new one a couple of months ago. We're using NTBackup, which works fine manually, but I cannot get it to start automatically. The batch file works fine when called manually as well (tapebackup.bat). But the AT command doesn't seem to do anything - not even an error message. The Schedule service seems to be started because when I start it, it says it's already started. I can stop and start that service, but I don't remember seeing it in the services list from Control Panel. When I type AT at the command prompt, the task looks correct (only one task scheduled). Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jon

I would recommend using the "/k" switch to troubleshoot that issue. Details here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142040/EN-US/

Just as an additional note, that switch works on Windows 3.51 to Windows 2000 Server and workstations.

AT commands Task Scheduler is installed with IE4 or IE5 and replaces the Schedule service and the AT commands. Some programs will only run under the schedule service, or they run unpredictably under Task Scheduler. If this is a problem you have had with AT, uninstall Task Scheduler and use the Schedule service (atsvc.exe) instead.

Thanks. Haven't been able to try this yet, but would like to unless we upgrade the server first... :)

usually this is because the password for the administrator or whatever login the job is using has changed. check it out in the task properties...

Thanks, but I've created new jobs. Wouldn't they be using the new existing password?? Anyway, I haven't been able to try this yet, but we upgrade the server first... :)
