Symptom: Cannot add a new printer.
add printer > my computer > add port > new lpr port
“Specified new port cannot be added; The remote procedure call failed.”
Spooler service is dead now, need to restart to let printing to other printers continue.
Other symptoms include (sometimes) “new lpr port” hangs; need task manager to kill it.
Have rebooted. No effect. Reapplied sp6a + reboot. No effect.
Walked the “View Dependencies” tree for dll conflicts with “path”; no conflicts.
Server isa DELL PowerEdge 6300, PDC, file server. Suggestions welcome.
