NT and EMS (Expanded memory)

By tore ·
I'm having some huge problems with an application called Symphony (Lotus). It's and dos app. that requires little conventional memory (no problems there). The trouble is, the app. needs a EMS to be able to load (larger) files. 1024 kbytes would be enough!! No matter how I configure the pif-file (shortcut), the app. reports none bytes avaliable EMS memory. I have also tried adding the following line to config.nt: EMM=RAM.

Does anyone know who to do this so that my app. get the memory (EMS) that it need? Or does anyone know of a memory manager that works with NT-TS.

Almost forgot: Some specs: IBM Netfinity server 6000, Windows NT terminalserver, SP6, 2 GB of RAM. Thx

You could try setting XMS and EMS to "Auto" and if you still have problems running your dos app, set your value in "Total" to 8192, from the memory tab of the pif properties dialogue.

Your apps is a very old one and needs to be run in a DOS box.
In order to change it's memory values to the requirements, start a new instance of DOS, go to the upper left corner, left mouse, properties.
Under the memory TAB, select the value you need. Perhaps you will need to try differents configurations. Once you have the correct values, you can make an icon for the Symphony.exe with the same values you have found.

Please check your answer before you submit it. The solution you suggest only applies to win9x, NOT NT!!! Sorry!

You can edit your registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\CURRENTVERSION\MSDOSOPTIONS. Remove the noems under the key for emm386.

Again this does not apply to Windows NT, only win9x. Bye the way, the correct regkey is located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\windows\CURRENTVERSION\MSDOSOPTIONS! Sorry!
