NT can't restart system

By Bill Cassada ·
I'm running a Giga-byte m/b with a DEC 1999 BIOS. NT 4 had been running wonderfully on this system. Now when I try to restart the system it completes the write to disk, then freezes as it tries to restart. Win98 *it's a dual boot) works fine. APM plays no part as I've turned it completely off and then on but no change at all. It's not that hard to hit the reset button but it irks me...appreciate any help.

NT can't restart system

by _Degan_ In reply to NT can't restart system

If the machine was working fine, then has changed the way it works, I would examine any changes made prior to it not restarting properly. I've had this happen with the installation of new device drivers, and upgrading of existing drivers.

You may want to provide more details about system, and it's functions.

Some suggested troubleshooting:
If you disconnect it from the network, start it up, then shut it down prior to login, does it hang? If not, login, then shutdown, does it hang? If not, attach to network, try same.

It's an AMD K6-II 400, 128mb, 3com 905bTX NIC, ActionTec modem, SP4. Nothing that I know of has changed. I am the admin and this system functions as a standalone. It's just something that interests me...nothing life-threatening.
