NT Default Shares Keep Disapearing

By tzmueller ·
On my WinNT4 and some Win2K Pro Workstations that are part of a domain their default shares (Admin shares) keep disapearing (or do not get created at all)on me. These are the c$ or d$ shares that only Admin's can access.

I have try to manually enter them in and they work only untill I reboot the machine and they disapear.

Can anyone answer my question. I would also like to write a Kixtart script which will make these shares on all the drives of these machines automatically if they are not present.

Thanks.

Admin shares should be automatically created at reboot. Check the following Registry entry to ensure this is working:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
AutoShareServer (REG_DWORD )

Also check this Technet article for other solutions:

I tried the reg entry and it still doesn't give me the C$ and Admin share of %systemroot%. I tried your link to MS and it doesn't seem to be there anymore. Do you happen to know the exact article ID #?

The second ID from MS was the exact one I was looking for. Worked! I used Poledit to fix my shares.
