NT Dump

By udaya ·
After installing Win NT 4.0 on a working system and working with it for a few times, I notice that the installation gives me a dump stating some message that looks like xxxx_xxxx_xxxx_xxx and so on and refuses to work giving a message that we need to start with /crashdebug option. i am unable to do so. please guide me to the actual problem and the solution.

I suggest two techniques
1) Next time it crashes write down the Stop Error number, Top Left of screen e.g Stop 0x0000020. Once you have this number look it up in Technet (also available at www.microsoft.com site)
2) If it does boot at all, then you can get DumpExam from your NT CD. Copy the file into the Winnt folder, then run Dumpexam from the command prompt. This will produce a file called memory.txt which you can read with notepad. Look up the bugcheck codes in Technet.
Other tactics ask, 'What has changed recently?' Alternatively, be ruthless, backup data and reinstall, especially as its a Workstation not a server
