NT Freeze's

By RBobcat ·
I've got a Dell running NT 4 Workstation. It goes thru the normal boot but when it gets to the workstation splash screen the machine locks up.
I've boot to a floppy and transfered from a floppy the ntldr and boot.ini and ntdetect files from anothermachine just like it.

what drivers load at bootup ?? possibly a video driver is causing this. Try booting NT with a minimal set of drivers. have a look at this technet article, it lists the boot ini switches available for boot up. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q170756&
Hope it helps

It does souns like a driver conflict. Were any new devices/drivers introduced? As the other user stated, load with minimal drivers. Choose VGA mode when booting. I'd also recommend updating the computers bios. Next you can try pulling out the network card and rebooting. Do you get any errors or does it just sit there forever? - Jerry
