NT Login error

By hal.potter ·
I have a client that has an NT server and two win2K machines that log into the NT server. One win2k machine had to have win2k reinstalled and now it won't log into the NT server. The message I get is:

"...condition caused by DNS lockup problem. Go to website:
...//go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=5171
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"

The other computer loggs in just fine, so I know that it is not the NT server. I know that the domain name: "CHEC" is still working. Both comptuers are win2k SP4. Anyone have any ideas as to why the reinstalled system cannot see the domain?

Type ipconfig /all and the DNS entry should point to your internal DNS server. If not, it will not see the domain!

Windows NT domain use WINS. Make sure the system that failed has the correct WINS server listed and the system exists in WINS.

Hello there,

Make sure this W2K machine has as first DNS entry the IP address of your PDC, that's all ...

Good luck,

@lberto

hmm. i would unjoin and rejoin. did you name the computer the same. the computer has to belong to the domain, not just the user...the sid changed, maybe. so join a workgroup 'test' then join the domain. see if that gets you back in...
