NT print que problem

by rabbit_runner . Updated 25 years, 2 months ago

I have an NT server 4.0 with sp6a. 196 meg ram, 800 mhz cpu, 3 ide hard disks (10g,40g, 40g). Spooler folder is on a different partition from the OS. Printing to an IP address on an HP4v printer. Printer is shared on the network. The server is using only TCP/IP for a protocol, pagefile is 2.5 GIG and spread across the different drives.
Problem: One staff person does a batch printing job at the end of every day. The batch program runs fine and the print jobs are sent to the que. Each job isa single page, but there are often 150 to 400 pages being generated by the batch program. All jobs are sent to the printer que and are there waiting to be printed Initially, about 40 pages print, then the printer pauses for 10 minutes. Then another25 pages print with the printer pausing again for 10 or so minutes. This continutes with pauses of 10 minutes between 20-40 pages each time.

I have tried increasing the pagefile, and moving the spooler folder to a different partition. What can bedone to keep the print jobs printing without the pauses?
