NT print server - XP clients

By qb4006 ·
Hello

Is there anyway to have an NT print server with XP clients?

I have it like this now but the clients are downloading NT print drivers from the server which cause some bad print outputs. I tried to install XP print drivers on the NT server but I would get errors during the install. Eventually I just had clients directly install the printers using the printers IP address but if possible I would like to keep all clients on the NT print server

Any ideas??
Thanks

Yes, you can install XP print drivers on a NT4 print server. Basically, you have to PUSH the drivers from the XP box onto the NT4 box.
Here is a Technet article on how to do this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=263090

The article was written for pushing Win2K print drivers onto NT, but it also works for XP print drivers. I've done it myself, so that's how I know it works.

hope this helps

Or you can install the printer like a local printer on WinXP workstation and then create on that workstation a new local port with a name like this: \\PrintServer\PrinterShareName
