NT Problems

By pzhamilton ·
In prep for a Win 2K upgrade I tried to ghost my system to a blank disk. In the process I made an error and ghosted the system disk with the blank. Lost everything!! We only ERD available an noo backup on tape etc.. The system was set up again but the data has been lost. Is there any utility out there that will allow me to get back to the original?? My thinking is there is not but you never know. Any advice!!

Unfortunately, you are most likely out of luck. Being that the data was overwritten, most, if not all, was lost. If you are not using NTFS, you could try Norton Untilities to see if you can find anything with an older version of Disk Editor. Other than that, you would need a utility to do a sector read and look over the drive in that manner.

There are two utilities I know that MIGHT help:
"Spinrite" from www.grc.com
and
"easy recovery" from www.ontrack.com

Note that these are NOT free programs but both claim to recover data from "formatted" disk.

They may help you.
