NT Server 4.0 shutdown

by kurt g . Updated 25 years, 1 month ago

I recently connected a new APC Smart-UPS (1400XL) to one of my NT Servers. Through the serial connection I think I’ll be able to configure the UPS to alert my server of a low-power situation and force a soft-shutdown of the server. I’d like to know if I can get that server to notify other servers on my network to shutdown as well.

I contacted APC and they told me I MUST either buy a multiple serial module and connect each server to the UPS -or- buy an SNMP mgmt card for the UPS. I don’t have funding to buy anything else right now, but the summer T-Storm season is here and I know we’ll see power-outages.

Does anybody know how I can protect my servers without buying new hardware? Could I write a script that uses the command scheduler?

Thanks,
Kurt G.
