I am trying to replace a failed DVD Writer that failed with a new unit in a small LAN file server. The server is running NT Server service pack 4, build 1381. I have become aware of some compatibility problems with commonly available writers and the bundled software. I have tried another writer. It is recognized as a CD player/writer and DVD player. It is not recognized as a DVD writer. Any ideas?

When you say you are replacing a DVD writer, I presume the old one wrote DVDs before it expired?Check with the DVD manufacturer web site if the model you have is supported by an old OS like NT4.0. Also you say you have build 1381 which means it is NT4.0 SP6 not SP4.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
