NT Server and DVD Writers

By lockhar4 ·
I am trying to replace a failed DVD Writer that failed with a new unit in a small LAN file server. The server is running NT Server service pack 4, build 1381. I have become aware of some compatibility problems with commonly available writers and the bundled software. I have tried another writer. It is recognized as a CD player/writer and DVD player. It is not recognized as a DVD writer. Any ideas?

Since you didn't give any details of the writer, I'm venturing a guess that if it says that it is NT compatible, it may require the latest SP.

The only other idea that comes to mind is to check with the manufacturer for updates/support.

When you say you are replacing a DVD writer, I presume the old one wrote DVDs before it expired?Check with the DVD manufacturer web site if the model you have is supported by an old OS like NT4.0.
Also you say you have build 1381 which means it is NT4.0 SP6 not SP4.
