NT Server configurted as router

By Numbies ·
I have installed an NT Server as a router between 2 domains. I installed a WINS server on each domain and they are replicating fine. The was originally part of the one domain and we added an NIC to connect to the other.

My problem now is that I can see the entire network from PC's on the domain where the router was originally located, but can only see the router from the other domain - no other machines?

Thanks for the help.

NT Server configurted as router

The first thing that comes to mind is do hosts on another network have default gateway configured. If they do have and the router is not "our NT router", then that another router must have route entry in its routing table for the subnet on the otherside of "our NT eouter". Besides that check IP address of the subnet an subnet mask.

When you say "you can't see" hosts on another side of the router, do you mean you
a) can't ping them or
b) you can't see them in network neighbourhood.

If a) is OK and the problem is b), then you have problem with NetBIOS name registration. Ifyour WINS servers are configured well, then check that your hosts are registering their names with apropriate WINS server. You can see that in WINS manager (show mappings). Also your clients should be configured to logon to same domain(s), if you have several domains, there should exist trust relationship. Also, try to share something on your clients (if there is nothing shared, they will not be seen in network neighbourhood). Also check LMHosts file if there were some old entries there.
