NT Server font problem

By clint80126 ·
I have an NT4 server service pack 5. When I go to START/PROGRAMS instead of the side carots I get 8's. Also my minimize/close icons on all programs are numbers also. How do I correct?

Check the default profile by login on to the server with a new account, if your desktop is the same then your default profile is corrupt, (user.dat), this can happen if you use roaming profiles.

It's not profile related. It does it for any user that logs on.

NT has a font limit of 48MB. After NT passes the 48MB limit fonts will start to display incorrectly. Look up Q219298 on MS website for more detail.

The other possibility is font corruption. I've had this happen to me before. The solution is to copy the non-True Type fonts from some other machine where this does not happen. The True-type fonsts need not be copied since they are not used for NT'ssystem messages and dialog boxes. the default font is normally MS Sans Serif. Hope this helps.

Hi,

NT is Using the TAHOMA.TTF as font. Copy this to WINNT\FONTS. U should configure the font with controlpanel Monitor Desktop, klick in the Window and chose your favorite font.

Hope it Helps

PS: twice the same question ?

I would suggest that you look back at any changes that you made just prior to this problem starting (particularly software or hardware installs) and undo the change (uninstall). Other things to try are:
Reduce display resolution and colors
Adjust performance tab to maximum for forground
Increase virtual RAM
If you can adjust the video acceleration settings, reduce them.
Good luck.
