    NT Server Lock Up

    Locked

    by ddbaker ·

There have been two occassions where our NT server has locked up. The warning in the event log both times prior to locking up was: The server was unable to find a free connection 2 times in the last 60 seconds.
When this happens I am unable to even shutdown the server remotely, it requires a power off. The events are 1 month apart.

You can try this, however, it entails modifying the registry. I would first back up the registry (use rdisk) before attempting it.

      1) Open the registry using regedt32. (Using regedit is not recommended).

      2) Go to the following subkey: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

      3) Add the following two values:

      Value Name: MaxFreeConnections
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Value: 8

      Value Name: MaxWorkItems
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Value: 255

You can increate the MaxWorkItems, but the max is 512.

We have found that it was a bad roaming profile. When the person logged out it would hang the server. Thanks
