First I would update your bios. Older Bios don't see bigger hdd. Nt can handle up to 16 exabytes so that so not the problem. You do need to format the hdd. Run fdisk first, you can setup partitions if you want. Then restart nt after the format is complete and apply the latest service pack and you should be able to see the 80gb hdd now.
You should create a small DOS partition (6gig?)as a safety measure in case you need to troubleshoot, this will allow you to get the HD going, once the disk is in the box then you can use NTFS to format the rest of your HD not matter how big it is without a problem, NTFS will allow you to format whatever is left on the HD. Or you can put the HD on an existing NT box as a secondary drive and fortmat it using NTFS, then take out make it primary (jumpers)and put it in your other box. Hope this helps.

Will I get the full size once I format the drive?
