NT Server SP needed?

We have a NT 4.0 server with SP3, and 2 new XP Pro boxes. They have no problems using the domain, but I seem to remember reading that to minimize problems, the server needs to have at least SP6 installed. Is this true, and if so, why is this? Anyone else know about a microsoft document or article talking about this? I couldn’t find it. Thanks.
