NT Server stops talking to wan clients

By ricrei ·
I have a small network with 3 NT4 ( SP6a ) servers and about 60 clients, we run four WAN links accross a 256K (64 K per line)frame connection. Every now and again my BDC stops talking to one of my Wan clients , He can ping the PDC and the BDC and WINS will resolve the name for the PDC but not the BDC.
I have tried Shutting down and re-starting the DNS server and the Primary and secondary WINS servers ( One on the PDC and one on the BDC) and I have created and installed an LMHOST file and it still does not fix the problem. The only resolution I have come up with is to shut down the servers and bring them back up. When this is done everything is fine until next time.

I am not sure if I am missing something or if this is a common problem but I would be gratefull for any help you guy's can give me.

Thanks Ricky

Next time this happens, check the WINS server and see if the BDC entry is there and if WINS thinks it is up. It may be that WINS thinks that the BDC has shut down, so is no longer resolving its name for clients.

You probably want to have the server address in WINS as static addresses.

Good luck.
