NT Server tools on Win98SE

By Bethany_L ·
I recently rebuilt my workstation, and now cannot use file system security on network shares (this worked before, and I am not sure what I did to "break" it). All my other features of Server tools work fine, and I do get the security tab when looking at properties of network shares. Permissions, Auditing and Ownership are there, but when I click on them nothing happens.
If anyone has run into this before and can offer a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

You ought to apply the latest service packs and updates from Microsoft's site.

Good Luck!

Check out the Conrol Panel, Network Icon, Check the Client for Microsoft. What you are looking for is Logon validation = your Domain. Also check the Access Control, again should say User Level, and your Domain.

Also check File and Print Sharing, check boxes are ticked.

Windows 9x revert to Share Level security when you rebuild them, or just for no good reason.

This had no effect either way, although it may be necessary in some environments. After adding the path to my autoexec, life is good. Thank you anyway!

When you install the NT server tools on a 98 machine (eg in c:\srvtools) you have to add the following line to your autoexec.bat:

SET PATH=%PATH%;c:\srvtools

if you've done this and reboot you'll be able to use the security tab again

Greetz,

Chris
