Is there any way to go back to service pack 5 after going to 6 without having to reinstall NT and starting over?

When you apply an SP, there is an option to allow an un-install. If you selected that when you did the SP6, you can reverse it, if not I think you are into starting over.

Did you put on SP6 or SP6a? There were bugs in SP6, SP6a may correct.

hi,
whenever you install / apply any Service Pack there are two options.. one to "proceed" & other to "uninstall". Click both so that you can always uninstall a service pack & apply another one. the procedure with both options usres extra 40-60MB of your disk space 9to keep uninstall info).
I use SP6a on all my NT Servers & WrkStns.

You can always go back to the previous service pack just by un-installing the present service pack from the add/remove programs provided you have selected to backup the files while you have applied the present service pack. You can go back to service pack 5 only if your previous service pack was 5 before you installed the present service pack.

Service packs default to allowing the roll back to previous service pack. If you installed the initial offering of SP6 (Not a) you may be facing a reinstallation.
Remember that there were two SP6a's get a fresh download to be sure you don't have the one that MS yanked due to errors.

I like using Norton Ghost to take a quick snapshot of the OS partition before a major service pack installation.
