NT sharing to Window 95

By nmcgill ·
I have an NT WS 4.0 sp6a that needs to access files on a Windows 95 PC. However, NT WS do not have access to the files on a Windows 95 PC, only when the NT user has administrative rights. We cannot however, give all NT users administrative rights. Is it possible for a NT WS to see files on a Windows 95 PC, if so How ???

assuming that the win95 pc has file/print sharing installed, once you share the directories out, you could assign either a read-only and/or full access password to the share.

The windows 95 pc does have file/print sharing turned on. We are using User Level access so no password should be necessary. The win NT pc gets accessed denied. He can see the c: drive which is shared, but cannot access it.

I use the setup that your talking about all the time. I have never seen a windows 95 machine be administratot specific. Once you enable file sharing under your network setup all you have to do
1. find a file or drive that you want to share right click on it
2. go to sharing
3.click the shared as
4. set the attributes, like share name to whatever you want. also access type to either read only, full, or depends on password if you set this make sure you put in a password.
5 hit the apply button

go to network neiborhood find the pc with the shared folder and everyone should be able to access the folder or drive.

You have Win NT 4.0 PCs on a Microsoft NT network trying to access files that are shared on a Win 95 PC? This doesn't seem to work here unless the NT PC user has administrative rights.

If I'm remembering correctly, 95 does not setup everyone for share access by default as NT does. If you're using user level share control...I beleive you also have setup specific users on the 95 machine to allow access in. This should've been prompted to you when you initially setup the share.

Good luck to you

How ever this does not give you the option to add group permission.

for 95 pc's:
1-Control panel -Network-access control-RIGHT THE NAME OF THE DOMAIN YOU HAVE.
2-Make sure that all your 95 pc's are configured to log on to the NT domain.
For the NT server (DC)give each group the right privilledge for each 95 share{from servers manager).(you 95 pc's chould be configured for remote administration)
