NT slow response

By jpratt ·
I inherited a Compaq Proliant 1600 running NT 4.0 SP5 and is a PDC. It is also running MS Exchange 5.5. At times the server seems to bog down. Is there some performance monitors I can enable so I can track down the cause of the server's sluggish response.

Sure, start-programs-administrative tools-performance monitor. Select what you want to monitor, memory, harddrive, network, etc.

You can also tap CTRL-ALT-DELETE and open the "Task Manager". There you can get current memory / CPU utilization stats and also details on applications (memory used, COU used) to see what's using the resources.

I use performance monitor to check the hard drive queue length and cpu usage. Also take a look at your event logs from time to time for any patterns that keep coming up.

Hope this helps
