NT Spooler.exe error

By wohaney ·
I have an NT network with an HP8100 printer. Everything MS prints fine but when someone tries to print from a third party software (MRI)"an application error in Dr. Watson....spooler.exe".

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer from the network and workstations.

Any clues anyone?

Microsoft has reproted problems with third party print monitors that may cause Dr. Watsons. See TechNet #Q246838
for starters. The problem must be with the third party app, so reinstalling printer will not help. You might try updating to the latestNT servoice pack if you don't already have it.

Hope this helps, good luck!

I had the same problems and events...
If you are using the HP Standard TCP/IP Monitor for your HP printers. You probably have a bad version.
You may be able to find a new version at HP with there search. If not, I have a pointer to the file I used, but I don't know how old it is. (ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software and download hpspmnt.exe).

Stop the spooler, rename HPTCP*.* files in your system32 folder run hpspmnt.exe and start the spooler. I can't remember if I had to reboot the server, but if you have that luxury....
