NT touchpad

How do I get NT (a non-plug n play OS) to detect a touchpad? Dell Inspirion 7000 drivers will only install if NT has already detected the touchpad.

From the control panel select mouse, then look for a "change" button. It will vary slightly depending on your current mouse driver. From there choose have disk and insert new drivers.
