NT User Mandatory Profiles

By L Lynch ·
We are using NT server and NT Workstation with Mandatory user profiles that are retained on the Server. Whenever a user makes any changes (e.g. desktop colours or in Word, Tools, Options etc..) those changes are lost once the user logs off. The Mandatory user profile isn't been updated with the changes. How can I fix this?

The use of Mandatory profiles means that you do not want any changes by the user to be kept and the original desktop will reappear the next time the user logs on. It sounds like in your situation you really want to use romaing profiles. You will have to change the suffix of the users profile file from .MAN to .USR.

The person with answer one is right, but I always thought you had to rename the user.man to allow the profile to be changed.

Other things I'd do would be get out the NT poledit and see if there's soemthing under the user profile area that could be causing this (like delete cached copies of roaming profiles)

If nothing was showing there, I would then log in as that person, and see if I could copy the contents of their profiles folder under winnt profiles to their home folder on the network. You should see any type of permissions error here that may be preventing the user.dat to save.

Good luck to you

Mark
