NT w/station 4.0 and Outlook 97

By dlweaver ·
I have a workstation with NT 4.0 and Outlook 97 on it. When Outlook is open and viewing the "In-Box", the user clicks the address book to look for his list of "Contacts" but nothing shows up. If the user uses the Outlook toolbar to view "Contacts", they all show up like normal.

Try clicking on Tools, Services, Personal Address Book, Properties, and make sure it's pointing to his .PAB file.

You don't say if you are using exchange server or not. But is sounds like they have 2 address books one linked to the toolbar one is in the inbox (exchange server?). They can drag and drop the addresses in to the contact list for the inbox by opening the folders list. Then delete the personal address from mail services, then outlook will rebuild the toolbar.
If you have an exchange server you can upgrade to outlook 2000 for free, which has less problems. Just get with Microsoft and get the SP3 for exchange which will includes the OL2k upgrade.

Chances are, this is what you need to do. In Outlook, click Tools, then Services. Make sure you have Outlook Address Book installed as one of the services. Also, click the Addressing tab, and in the area that says "When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order." Make sure that Contacts is listed there. If not, click Add and then select it to be listed. When you are all done, you will probably have to EXIT AND LOG OFF out of Outlook. When you go back in, the contacts will be listed as a choice.
When you click the Address Book, you may have to click the Look In menu and select contacts.
