NT Workstation

I am adding a pc with nt wkst 4.0 to a network. ive installed sp4 and the network, and the card is on irg 11. i still keep getting an error that at least one device did not start. Ive checked the services and i didnt see any conflicts. when i wentinto event viewer it is showing that my scsi port 1 is not working properlly. when i go into scsi applet in the control panel it shows scsi 0 as a cdrom set up by nt and scsi 1 as my actuall cd rom. i guess what i want to know is how do i remove or change the port for the scsi devices so there is only one cd rom showing, and what can i do to check that my network adaptor is working properly other the the test adapter in network aplet.

Sounds like you have an IRQ problem even though no conflict is indicated by an error. Try changin the interrupt of the SCSI controller card or the network card. Often times the SCSI card will be on IRQ 11 and if the NIC takes this too then it won't work. IRQ 10 is usually a safe one for network cards. Hope it helps!

I have just experienced the same problem on a laptop that I added to my network. First question is this, did you install the NIC card during the installation of Workstation or did you add it after? Most NIC cards, newer ones, will not work properlyif they are added before the service pack is applied. Second the problem that I had was that my NIC was grabbing IRQ 11 by default and my video card was grabbing IRQ11, so after changing the NIC to IRQ 10, and then reappling my SP, I solved my video and nic problems in one bundle. A similar problem may be occuring with your SCSI adp. grabbing the same irq as the NIC and both are not working properly. Incidently, I was also receiving the message that at least one service failed. Hope this was helpful.
