We would like to allow one of the users remote access from home by installing the RAS on his NT Workstation at work. Everything we see that explains RAS does so from a SERVER standpoint, never from a WS.
This user only needs access to his personal folders on ONE of the Servers. Wouldn’t it be more secure to install the RAS on his office NT workstation rather than putting it on the Server?! In this case I cannot allow this connection be established directly on the Server. The user would be needing the Internet also, which
is available on his NT office workstation. Couldn’t we accomplish both tasks: 1. Allowing access to his personal folder, 2. Allowing Inet access by using this approach? We have attempted to implement thisbut are running into all sorts of problems with it. Is there anywhere
we can get particular information on this? Why doesn’t anyone discuss this scenario (including Mark Minasi’s incredibly huge NT book)? It seems so simple but as mentioned, we are really having a hard time. Perhaps NT Workstation really isn’t suited for this simple RAS task?
If we are unable to find out more information about this we may be forced into a third party remote control program like Laplink or PC Anywhere, which we wanted to avoid.
