NT4 Server and Proxy

by philldmc . Updated 25 years, 1 month ago

I currently have a Three NT4.0 Servers PDC and BDC along with a Proxy 2.0. The Proxy is setup as a Stand Alone Server. All with SP6. Lately the Proxy has been running really slow, over 10 minutes from boot to desktop. The only program running in theback ground on the proxy during boot up is the “openserver.exe”.

Once or twice a week the Proxy services will be stopped, for unknown reason, the Event Viewer does not report any thing. So, I start the services and reboot the machine to get it running again. Today I took off line the proxy to reinstall the OS and Proxy software, however once I removed the proxy from the network no one was able to log in to the network. Users got the error message “no domain controller available to verify you password”

Any suggestions on why this is happening and how to correct it would be nice. Why does the PDC or BDC not verify the user and why the Proxy services are stopping? What is ?openserver.exe? and should this be running on the proxy? How can I remove the Proxy to reinstall the OS and still allow users to log in?
