NT4 Server in Peer to Peer Network

By lylea42 ·
We are currently running a peer to peer network with 8 Win98 workstations and 1 NT Server whiicvh is acting as a file and print server.

We have installed a new NT4 Server for use as an internet server and cannot get the server to find the other wkstns on the network. Occassionally it will find the other machines but when you click on them an error message "network not accessible" appears.

I have noticed that the browsere service is constantly being activated and have tried everything to disable it. the server servicec does not work because wwe are using a peer to peer network and wew are unable to determine why we cannot locate the other workstations. Any ideas!!!

Quit disabling the Browser service.

By default, the NT4 Server will become the "Master" browser on your network, then all the computers will use it to "find" the other computers.

If you turn off the browser, then you will never get your NT server to see any of the others.

When we first boot the system I can see a few of the machine in the network but as soon as it comes across a browser election with another machine the network disappears.

I haven't disabled the Browser service. When the service gets a chellenge response from one of the other machines everything in Network Neighborhood disappears.

I have also noticed that the network neighborhood on the win98 wkstns take a long time to activate.
