I would do a few things to start over,

1. Format the drive
2. Partition the drive using fdisk, create two partitions , one at 1999mb and the other the remaining free space.
3. Run setup again
4. choose the 1999mb partition as the install partition.

It should be ok

you need to run fdisk from any boot disk that you have, do not able large disk, run the set up from cd do not run format from your boot disk let the cd run format. you need to make sure that the Dos portion of set up is also complete.

Start over using FDISK /MBR,
Now do a scan of the drive,if you have any errors scan will report and try to fix the bad sectors, when this completes, reboot the computer and do FDISK to Partition and Format the hard drive, hopefully you can proceed if not then you will have to get a new hard drive.Using third party software such as Norton Disk Doctor or Partition Magic may help but is not guarenteed,so try dowloading a copy from the manufacturers site.

Even i have faced the same problem. I think u r using win98 fdisk for partitioning. While creating partitions make sure that u do not enable large disk support. I am sure u will able to install NT if u use the above solution. All the best
